Ancient Paths: Background Noise
In life, we often find ourselves at crossroads, faced with difficult decisions and challenging circumstances. These moments can have far-reaching consequences and impact our lives in profound ways. It is during these times that what we allow ourselves to hear becomes crucial, as it greatly affects what we are able to see. Our minds become the battleground, where the background noise of our past can either hinder or empower us. We will explore the story of Abraham, who faced hard times but chose to shift his background noise and believe in the faithfulness of God.
Background Noise and Its Impact:
Just as background noise in a sporting event can greatly influence our experience, the thoughts and beliefs we allow to consume our minds have a profound effect on how we perceive and navigate through life's challenges. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to
“guard our hearts and minds, for everything we do flows from them”
What we hear and dwell on shapes our perspective and affects our ability to see the goodness and faithfulness of God in our lives. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, which encourages us to
“take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ”
Abraham's Journey of Faith:
Abraham, initially known as Abram, was called by God to leave his country and people and go to a land that God would show him. God promised to make him a great nation, bless him, and make his name great. However, Abram faced the challenge of not having any children and struggled with the disconnect between God's promise and his current reality. Yet, despite the background noise of his past failures and doubts, Abram chose to believe God.
The Power of Believing God:
Abram's faith in God's promises was credited to him as righteousness. He shifted his focus from the noise of his past to the truth of God's character and faithfulness. This shift allowed him to trust God even when faced with the unimaginable. One such moment was when God tested Abram by asking him to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. Although this request seemed incomprehensible, Abram's unwavering belief in God's provision enabled him to obey.
Choosing Jesus in Hard Times:
Life is not always easy, and we may encounter situations that don't make sense or seem unfair. But just as Abram believed in God's faithfulness, we too can choose to believe in Jesus, regardless of our circumstances. By filling our minds with the truth of God's Word and meditating on His promises, we can shift the background noise of our past and focus on the glory and hope of God. This empowers us to face hard times with faith and trust in His provision.
In the midst of hardship, it is essential to shift our background noise and choose to believe in Jesus. What we allow ourselves to hear greatly impacts what we are able to see. By filling our minds with the truth of God's character and promises, we can navigate through life's challenges with faith and hope. Just as Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness, our belief in Jesus enables us to experience His provision and faithfulness. So, let us guard our hearts and minds, choosing to believe in the goodness and ableness of God, even in the midst of hard times.
