Ancient Paths: Relationships for our Good | Antioch Austin

Relationships are an integral part of our lives, shaping our experiences and influencing our growth as individuals. Whether it's a romantic partnership, a friendship, or a professional connection, relationships have the power to bring us joy, fulfillment, and personal transformation. However, they can also be a source of pain, frustration, and confusion. In this blog, we will explore the importance of slowing down, looking up, and leaning in when it comes to navigating relationships.

A couple of weeks ago we preached a sermon called Taking New Ground and focused on Joshua 1. It really does say it all so why put words in God's mouth, when he already gave them to you as an incredible declaration of hope and prayer?

verse 7

“Be strong and very courageous, be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you, don't turn from it to the right or to the left that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this book of law always on your lips, meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you be strong and courageous. Don't Be Afraid, don't be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. “

Slowing Down

In the fast-paced world we live in, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life. We often find ourselves rushing from one task to another, leaving little time for reflection and self-awareness. Slowing down is crucial when it comes to relationships. It allows us to take a step back, create space, and gain perspective. By slowing down, we can better understand our own emotions, motivations, and reactions, as well as those of the people around us.

Looking Up

When faced with challenges in our relationships, it's essential to look up and seek guidance from a higher power. For many, this higher power is God. By turning to God, we can find solace, wisdom, and strength. Looking up reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles and that there is a divine purpose behind every relationship. It helps us shift our focus from our own desires and expectations to a greater understanding of God's plan for our lives and the lives of those around us.

Leaning In

Once we have slowed down and looked up, it's time to lean in. Leaning in means actively engaging with the people in our lives, even when it's challenging or uncomfortable. It means extending grace, forgiveness, and compassion, even when we feel hurt or wronged. Leaning in requires vulnerability, humility, and a willingness to grow and change. It means being open to learning from our relationships and allowing them to shape us into better versions of ourselves.

The Role of Healing

In the process of slowing down, looking up, and leaning in, healing plays a crucial role. Our past experiences, hurts, and disappointments can often hinder our ability to fully engage in healthy relationships. Healing involves acknowledging and addressing these wounds, allowing God to restore and transform us from the inside out. It requires us to let go of bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness, and to embrace love, grace, and compassion.

Navigating relationships can be a complex and challenging journey, but it is also an opportunity for personal growth, transformation, and connection. By slowing down, looking up, and leaning in, we can cultivate healthier, more fulfilling relationships. As we allow God to heal and restore us, we can extend love, grace, and compassion to those around us, reflecting the image of Christ in our interactions. Let us embrace the invitation to slow down, look up, and lean in, and experience the transformative power of relationships in our lives.
