Choosing the Good Way: Finding Rest in the Ancient Path

In a world filled with endless possibilities and choices, it can be overwhelming to navigate through life's crossroads. However, as followers of Jesus, we have the privilege of seeking the ancient paths and choosing the good way. Today, we will explore the importance of making daily micro-crossroad decisions that align with God's will and how they can lead us to find rest for our souls.

Standing at the Crossroads

Jeremiah 6:16 reminds us to stand at the crossroads and look, asking for the ancient paths and the good way.

This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.

It is at these critical decision points that we have the opportunity to choose the path that will have far-reaching consequences. While some crossroads may seem insignificant, every choice we make, big or small, shapes our lives.

Micro Crossroads and Far-Reaching Consequences: Often, we underestimate the impact of our daily micro-crossroad decisions. These decisions may not seem significant at the time, but they can lead us closer to Jesus or further away from Him. From the media we consume to the relationships we invest in, each choice has the potential to shape our character and spiritual growth.

Trusting in the Lord: Proverbs 3:5 encourages us “to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding.

This verse reminds us that God's wisdom surpasses our own, and by submitting our ways to Him, He will make our paths straight. Trusting in the Lord means seeking His guidance in every decision, big or small, and allowing Him to lead us in the good way.

Relationship over Religion

Choosing the good way is not about legalism or a list of do's and don'ts. It is about cultivating a relationship with Jesus and allowing Him to guide us in the nuances of life. As we submit our ways to Him, we can trust that He will speak to us, guiding us in the choices we face. Relationship with Jesus allows us to recognize His voice and follow His leading.

Running from Evil

To choose the good way, we must also run from evil. This means shunning the things that draw us away from God and hinder our spiritual growth. It requires discernment and a willingness to let go of anything that does not align with God's will for our lives. By fleeing from evil, we create space for God to bring health and nourishment to our souls.

In a world filled with choices, it is crucial to stand at the crossroads and choose the good way. By trusting in the Lord, submitting our ways to Him, and running from evil, we can find rest for our souls. Every decision we make, no matter how small, has far-reaching consequences. Let us embrace the ancient paths and allow God to lead us in the good way, experiencing the fullness of life in Him.
